A Tequila Bourbon Cocktail for Cinco de Derby
While I was in the process of researching tequila for Corralejo Reposado Tequila over on Bourbon & Banter earlier this week I decided to see if there were such a thing as a bourbon and tequila cocktail. Cinco de Mayo comes so close to the Kentucky Derby that these two spirits were on my brain and I thought it would be very fitting if I could find a cocktail recipe that uses both of them. It turns out that there is at least one very good recipe that does indeed call for both bourbon and reposado tequila. The drink is called And to All a Goodnight. I found it on Imbibe’s website and made it for Episode #228 of The Charlie Tonic Hour. It is a great recipe, very much a modern take on a classic-style cocktail. Here is the recipe so you can try it at home the next time you can’t decided which side of the boarder you drink should fall on.
And to All a Goodnight
To balance the spiciness, try using a sweeter bourbon, such as Maker’s Mark.
1 1/2 oz. bourbon
3/4 oz. reposado tequila
3/4 oz. Cherry Heering
2 dashes orange bitters
1 dash Angostura bitters
Tools: mixing glass, barspoon, strainer
Garnish: orange twist (optional)
Combine ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and stir to chill. Strain into a glass and garnish. Makes 2 servings.*
*I found that this recipe was not quite enough to serve as two drinks but probably a bit too big for just one. I also was unable to obtain Cherry Heering from my local liquor store so I substituted a cheery liquor which probably made it sweeter than originally called for. Nevertheless, I loved it.
