The Clementine Cocktail, aka “Mommy Juice”
On Episode #225 of The Charlie Tonic Hour we discussed our trip to Columbus as well as a recent Esquire article explaining how empty bottles of Pappy Van Winkle are being used to sell counterfeit bottles on the black market. This was a topic near to my heart because anyone who blackens the name of bourbon is a villein of the highest order. But since I knew I would be getting plenty of that bourbon in the coming week I decided to do a cocktail for the drinks segment that was a little lighter and fruitier. The Clementine Cocktail is perfect for spring and very easy to make. Because I associate clementines (aka Cuties) so much with having kids I nicknamed this one “Mommy Juice.” Thanks to The Kitchn for the original recipe.
2 ounces vodka
2 ounces fresh-squeezed clementine juice, peels reserved
1 ounce simple syrup
clementine segments for garnish
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the vodka, clementine juice and simple syrup. Shake until your shaker has a frosty coating on the outside. Rub the clementine peel around the edge of the glass filled with ice. Discard the peel. Strain the cocktail into the glass and add a couple clementine segments for garnish.
