Recently I have somehow found myself with a surplus of peppermint schnapps. I mean, considering I only ever use it in hot chocolate there is no reason for me to have two bottles of the stuff. But despite the fact that the bottle is occupying valuable real estate in my liquor cabinet, I just can’t bring myself to pour perfectly good alcohol down the drain. While straining my brain for a way to use it up I remembered the Hot Shot. This bizarre little shot, consisting of vodka, peppermint schnapps and hot sauce, ended up being a part of my New Year’s Eve in 2011/2012 and therefore became the first recipe I ever published on this site. But the problem with that shot is that it tastes gross and is really not much more than a stunt for getting you drunk. But I discovered that by using vanilla vodka instead of the plain and leaving out the hot sauce you can make something that is actually pretty tasty. So ladies and gentleman, I give you the Christmas in July Shot.
Christmas in July
1 ounce vanilla vodka
1 ounce peppermint schnapps
Shake well over ice and pout into a tall shot glass. Sip or shot depending on your mood.
The mint reminds you of Christmas but the vanilla cools you down.
