Way back when Ginny and Charlie were first starting the Charlie Tonic Hour, a friend named Calamity Dawn made them an official Charlie Tonic cocktail. Now, over a year and half later Ginny and Charlie have added a second podcast and that friend has graduated bartending school and is on her way to becoming a professional mixologist. Yes, times have changed but we have not. In today’s show you can hear how Calamity Dawn got started in creating her custom drinks that she is now famous for in Steampunk circles and the inspiration behind the Charlie Tonic. Cheers!

Here at The Charlie Tonic Hour we like to think of ourselves as a multi-sensory experience. We offer your ears excitement with our weekly podcast. We provide a visual and intellectual feast with the website’s blogs and pictures. We’ve been told that we give great hugs and we like to think that we don’t smell too bad either. But now, finally, we have conquered the elusive 5th sense, taste! Ladies and Gentlemen we give you:
The Charlie Tonic
1 oz. Four Roses Bourbon
1/2 oz. Caramel Apple Liquor
3/4 oz. Honeycrisp Apple Vodka
Pour first three ingredients into a highball glass with ice. Add splash grenadine and stir. Cover with tonic and enjoy!
We would like to give our heartfelt thanks for the tireless efforts of Calamity Dawn. After working and slaving, night after night, in her kitchen laboratory to craft this outstanding recipe we finally got to taste it this past Saturday. It is sweet but not too sweet with a delightful tartness to it. Now you may be wondering where you can get your hands on Honeycrisp Apple Vodka. I hate to tell you this but Calamity actually makes the stuff herself. So if you want to make some yourself you will have to listen to Episode Six. Calamity Dawn herself is on the podcast with us, making the drink and walking us through how to infuse your own vodka at home. Until then you can make it with a commercially purchased apple vodka but I would use a 50/50 mix of apple and plain vodka or else it will be much sweeter than a true Charlie Tonic. So there you go. Now you can finally realize your secret fantasy and taste Charlie Tonic right in your very own home!
