News from Across the Pandora World

Aloysius, Charlie and myself are out-of-town so we don’t have any fun events going on to invite you to but if we were in town here are a few things that we would be doing…

Tonight is the Cincinnati premiere of new independent film Derby Baby! For the first time ever, the story of women’s roller derby is covered from both a national and international perspective, as Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Robin Bond and Dave Wruck take you with them on their international quest to learn why women’s flat track roller derby is the fastest growing sport in the world. Derby, Baby! explores the drama, the friendships, and the addictive nature of the women’s flat-track roller derby, including never-before-seen bout footage of the international flat-track roller derby champions. The film is narrated by Whip It star and actress Juliette Lewis.

There is a red carpet meet and greet with the Cincinnati Rollergirls from 6-8 pm at the Emery Theater and the movie starts at 8pm. Tickets are only $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

There are ten days left to fund a Kickstarter campaign for Scott Simmon’s Knights of P.O.W.E.R. comic:

Five survivors of tragedy have joined together to save others. This is their calling… This is their power.

Ten years ago, the Journeymen, in an effort to save their youngest member Skyblaze and New Jersey, managed to defeat and possibly kill their worst enemy Valence… but in the process sacrificed themselves. Nowadays, a grown-up Skyblaze and his girlfriend Gel operate as heroes and meet others inspired by the Journeymen. Tech Enforcer, who lost his son to senseless violence, acts as a mentor for Sapphire Red and Steelglove, two heroes with very painful pasts.

Preventing a political assassination brings the five together to form the Knights of P.O.W.E.R. Despite the tragedies each of them faced in their own lives, they refuse to be considered victims and provide hope and strength by example. Working together, they share some of their most closely held secrets in order to help each other… and also to survive the return of Valence, who plans to use their powers against them so she can kill the last of the Journeymen and their legacy.

You can pledge anywhere from $5 to $600 to help Scott get enough money to print and pay a colorist for his work. He has been a friend of Comic Related and Charlie for many years now so consider checking out his work.
